The College of Bioengineering has a history of over 40 years of running educational programs. The university's first provincial-level key discipline in microbiology and provincial-level outstanding scientific and technological innovation team were born here. The college has1provincial-level key construction discipline and1provincial-level engineering laboratory.
I. Teaching Staff The college was founded in 1984. Currently, there are 51 teachers, including 5 professors and 15 associate professors. 33 teachers hold doctoral degrees, and 30% of the teachers have overseas experience. Among the full-time teachers, there are 4 academic and technical leaders of the Henan Provincial Department of Education, 6 young backbone teachers in Henan provincial universities, 1 teaching master in Henan Province, 3 teaching pacesetters in Henan Province, and 22 part-time master's supervisors. II. Teaching Resources The college has constructed multiple teaching, research, production, and application platforms, which provide strong support for the cultivation of applied professionals. The college owns 36 advanced large-scale instruments such as flow cytometers, laser confocal microscopes, circular dichroism spectrometers, capillary electrophoresis instruments, and automatic amino acid analyzers. There are more than 1,800 sets of teaching and research instruments and equipment, with a total value of more than 42 million yuan. It has more than 90 basic laboratories, professional laboratories, research laboratories, and practice training laboratories, with a total area of 3,800 square meters. V. Student Development The college focuses on opening large-scale instruments such as electron microscopes, flow cytometers, and fluorescence quantitative PCR instruments to undergraduate students. Through the integration of science and education and multi-disciplinary collaborative teaching methods, students' innovation and practical abilities are strengthened. The college has jointly established innovation and entrepreneurship bases with Henan Hualan Biological Engineering Co., Ltd., Zhengzhou Antu Biological Engineering Co., Ltd., Anhui Gujing Gongjiu Group, Shoujiu Group, etc., and constructed high-level industry-university-research-application cooperation platforms to provide high - quality internship and training positions for students. More than 500 students from the college have been admitted to "Double First-Class" universities such as Northwest A&F University, China University of Geosciences, Huazhong Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Shaanxi Normal University, Jinan University, Zhengzhou University, and South China Agricultural University. In the class of 2024, 44 students were successfully admitted as postgraduate students, and the overall postgraduate entrance examination admission rate reached 30.3%. The college actively organizes discipline-specific competitions to guide students' all-round development and has constructed a multi-disciplinary collaborative teaching model guided by competitions. Students have won first prizes many times in national college student life science competitions, national college student innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and the "Challenge Cup" and other discipline competitions. VI. Scientific Research The teachers in the college have strong teaching and research capabilities. They have presided over 14 provincial-level online open courses, university-level first-class courses, and high-quality resource-sharing courses. Among them, "Cell Engineering" and "Introduction to Landscape Design" are "Henan Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Courses", "Microbiology" and "Cell Engineering" are "Henan Provincial Ideological and Political Model Courses", and "Virtual Simulation Experiment ofLiquorProduction" and "Virtual Simulation Project of Monoclonal Antibody Preparation and Application" are "Henan Provincial Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Projects". They have presided over 7 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 sub-projects of the National Key Research and Development Program, 41 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and participated in obtaining 10 Henan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards and 21 national invention patents. VII. UndergraduatePrograms Biotechnology This major is guided by the international scientific and technological frontiers and the current strategic background of Chinese biotechnology. It aims to cultivate high-quality, high-level senior technical talents in the field of biotechnology with an international perspective, who have an all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics, and labor. Students should master solid and broad basic theories and systematic and in-depth professional knowledge in this discipline, master one or two foreign languages, have good moral, scientific, cultural, and professional qualities, possess innovative spirit and teamwork spirit. They can engage in scientific research, technological development, talent cultivation, and project management in the industrial fields of biological detection, microbial technology and application, bio-pharmaceuticals, bio-agriculture, resource and environmental protection in China and other countries. Or, using this major as a platform, they can continue to study other majors and obtain degrees at universities in China and other countries. Food Science and Engineering Relying on the geographical advantages of Xinxiang City and the main grain and oil production areas and livestock and poultry breeding and processing gathering areas in northern Henan, this major takes the characteristic development path of research and processing of grain, oil, livestock, and poultry foods, and promotes the coordinated development of the major and the discipline. Based in Xinxiang and facing the grain, oil, livestock, and poultry food processing industries in northern Henan, it aims to cultivate applied talents with good ideological and moral character, excellent professional knowledge, strong practical ability, and high comprehensive quality, meeting the needs of the high-quality professional and technical talents for the economic development of the food industry in Henan Province. Students should master the basic theoretical knowledge of food science and engineering and the skills in related fields of food processing, have a good sense of social responsibility and ideological and moral qualities, adhere to the professional ethics of the food industry, be able to practice the core socialist values, have team spirit and an international perspective. They can engage in food production, scientific research, management, quality control, analysis, etc. in the industrial fields of food science research and development, engineering design, production technology management, food safety and quality inspection and control in China and other countries. Brewing Engineering The Brewing Engineering major has a four-year study period, and its professional category is engineering. It belongs to the Food Science and Engineering category (08217). Our university is the second undergraduate institution in Henan Province to offer the Brewing Engineering major. The major closely meets the strategic needs of "the revitalization of Henan liquor". Relying on the provincial-level key discipline in microbiology in Henan Province and the Henan Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and based on multiple practice and innovation platforms above the municipal level, it has established cooperative relationships with many well-known liquor enterprises inside and outside the province. This major is oriented towards Henan and radiates to the surrounding areas. It aims to cultivate applied professionals who can meet the development needs of the brewing industry and have the ability to solve engineering problems in brewing production, technical management, liquor tasting, and liquor body design. After graduation, students can engage in brewing production, technical management, engineering design, industry supervision, scientific research, etc. Or, using this major as a platform, they can continue to study other majors and obtain higher degrees at home and abroad.
